This was the Spanish municipality with the highest hotel occupancy in 2021
The municipality of Calvia (Majorca) It was the tourist destination with the highest level of hotel occupancy in Spain last year, according to the results of the Hotel Occupancy Survey (EOH) just published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Calvia had an average degree of tourist occupancy of 57.4%, a figure not too far removed from the 65% registered at the end of the summer season in October, and which proves the progressive deseasonalization of trips to this destination, thanks to its growing cultural, gastronomic and sports offer.
In addition to the average occupancy rate, Calviá also recorded good overnight figures in 2021, with 3,579,785, a figure that placed it in sixth place in the total number of Spanish destinations.
However, these data are far from those registered in 2019, the reference year before Covid-19, with more than nine million overnight stays.
The average stay of tourists in Calviá was 5.76 days, when the national average was 2.85 days. Finally, the INE report highlights the weight of international tourism in this town located on the west coast of Mallorca. During the past year, 621,718 travelers stayed in the municipality, of which 86.42% were foreigners and 13.58% were residents of Spain.
In Calvia there is more than thirty beaches and coves (15 with the Q Quality flag) in the areas of Illetes, Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Peguera and Portals Nous, but you can also take long and short hiking and cycling routes through the Sierra de Tramuntana, ornithological and archaeological routes or practice sports such as golf or diving.
