Mario Quintana reappeared with Elisa Carrió on stage: what they said about the Fund and the extreme positions

Mario Quintana, former Deputy Chief of Staff during the presidency of Mauricio Macri, he reappeared tonight on the political scene together with the founder of the Civic Coalition, Elisa Carrio. “I believe that there is an inescapable historical and ethical responsibility to honor the debt and agree with the International Monetary Fund”, Carrió maintained in the midst of the fracture that the ruling party is going through, to warn, in any case, that “The problem of the economic and social crisis in Argentina is not going to be solved by agreeing with the Fund”.

In a meeting organized by the Instituto Hannah Arendt, called “Democracy and the question of the other: a plea against all forms of racism and fanaticism”, accompanied by more than 200 participants, Carrió said that if she were in Congress, she would look at and discuss the clauses, but she would honor the debt. On the contrary, “It would mean a dollar at 350 and an inability for the industry to keep jobs.”

He clarified that his comments were in the name of responsibility for Argentina, “although he is no longer in any position.” And she regretted that the people had not elected her as President of the Nation to lead this situation.

Carrió too pointed out the failure of march against the Supreme Court and described it as aseditious act” because “when there are public officials there is an attack on the democratic system”. However, he judged that “it is clear that the government’s attempt to attack the judges failed”.

Regarding the surprise resignation of Maximo Kirchner to the presidency of the Frente de Todos bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, believed that it is a “fragmentation process”. He considered that this is “typical of political crises. It was predictable and you have to let it settle.”

“Economic crises bring a lot of fragmentation that is expressed in political representation,” he added. In addition, he stated that there is an intention to Cristina Kirchner to separate to form a pseudoizquierda facing two years and that she does not resign her position “because she loses her privileges.”

He postulated that this fragmentation occurred because the vice president stopped leading and this led the president Alberto Fernandez to form “the historic alliance with the governors league”, which make up the support force of the national government against this division.

For its part, Mario Quintana said: “I can’t think of topics most critical and most urgent than the one we propose here to reflect on”. He considered that currentlydemocracy as a system of government is being increasingly questioned for his inability to give answers to societies that express high levels of frustration”.

The businessman and former official stressed that “something very serious is at stake,” which is democracy, and warned that there are those who compare this situation with the 1930s that gave rise to the dictatorships in Europe. Likewise, he highlighted the fact that “more extreme positions gain more and more representation and societies are left in the middle with painful cracks”.
