The City Council prepares a tribute to Mariano Medina on the centenary of his birth
The mayor of Education and Culture, Teo García, has held a first meeting with representatives of the State Meteorological Agency in Castilla-La Mancha, dependent on the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, to initiate lines of collaboration in the field of outreach and education in the regional capital.
In the first instance, the meeting has been linked to the centenary of the birth of the man from Toledo Mariano Medina, pioneer in offering weather information in the country’s media and the delegate of the AEMET in Castilla-La Mancha, Paloma Castro; the former director of the Meteorological Observatory of Castilla-La Mancha, Fernando Aranda and the Head of Prediction of the AEMET, Ángel Rivera.
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Mariano Medina, “the first and best weatherman of all time”, according to the AEMET, and one of the main teachers of meteorologists, who also was a promoter of the meteorological culture in Spain, the City Council intends to develop a conference of recognition of the field of meteorology in Toledo and Spain.
The proposal will take place, foreseeably, next autumn and will feature the leading Spanish figures in the field of meteorological communication.
Another line of collaboration that the City Council intends to develop through the Department of Education is offer an experience of knowledge in this field of meteorology for the students of Toledo who are studying secondary education opening the doors of the Meteorological Observatory of Toledo and putting in value this outstanding center.
