Debt: the message published by Martín Guzmán prior to expiration with the IMF
In the midst of a climate of uncertainty regarding what will happen with the agreement between the Government and the International Monetary Fund, the Minister of Economy, Martin Guzman, published a short message in which he showed the backstage of the negotiation.
“We continue working”, was the message that, after 9:00 p.m., the official shared along with a photo that shows him in his office with the Argentine representative to the IMF, Sergio Chodos.
The posting takes place one day before Argentina faces a debt maturity of more than 718 million dollars, a fundamental step to unlock a renegotiation of the total amount that the country owes, which amounts to 44,000 million dollars.
Guzmán has until midnight tonight to send the payment order to the Central Bank, which must transfer the amount to the account that the entity has at the IMF during the course of Friday. The minister’s spokesmen revealed that he spent the day “in permanent contact with Washington”, with Chodos in a “co-pilot” role.
According to the head of the Economy portfolio, the debate between the Government and the Fund lies in the speed at which the zero deficit would be reached, since the body demands a faster reduction than the one proposed by the Alberto Fernández administration, which Its goal is to achieve fiscal balance in 2027.
