The judge imputes the ETA member Iñaki de Rentería for the murder of Gregorio Ordóñez

The head of the Central Court of Instruction number 1 of the National High Court, Alejandro Abascal, has agreed to summon as accused the former head of ETA Ignacio Miguel Gracia Arregui, alias “Iñaki de Rentería”, for his alleged participation in the decision to assassinate in January 1995 the Basque PP councilor Gregorio Ordoñez. He has summoned him on February 24 by videoconference.

In a car dated this Wednesday, Abascal takes this step in clarifying the origin of the order that ended the life of Ordóñez, a deputy of the Basque Parliament and deputy mayor of the San Sebastián city council, after taking a statement last December from the also historical head of ETA Mikel Albisu, alias ‘Mikel Antza’.

As he states, it is considered pertinent to call Iñaki de Rentería as accused “for his alleged responsibility in making the decision to assassinate Mr. Gregorio Ordoñez” given that he was »member of the executive committee of ETA between mid-1992, after Bidart, and his arrest on September 15, 2000, as responsible for the military and logistics apparatus.

Therefore, “he was temporarily part of the terrorist leadership on the dates that Mr. Ordoñez was assassinated.”

The judge also agrees to extend the investigation of this matter for another six months, starting on January 29, when the current term expired, without prejudice to any extensions deemed necessary a posteriori to complete the investigation.
