Beijing 2022: More than a thousand hours of live ice and snow, a “relevant part” in open
Eurosport will offer more than a thousand hours of Winter Olympic Games, through four channels, from February 4 to 20. As not even that amount of time is enough to cover all the sports, through the channel’s application for the different devices it will be possible to watch live and on demand up to the last minute of each competition. Not everything will be paid. Dmax and the ‘app’ itself will offer “a relevant part” in open, for free.
They attend Beijing 2022 14 Spanish athletes, maybe some more if there are casualties and waiting lists are used. “It will be a rare Games,” they admit from Eurosport, which to compensate for the difficulties has made a great technological commitment, to allow, for example, commentators to participate from remote places.
Among the collaborators stand out stars in their respective disciplines, such as Sara Hurtado Y Ander Mirambell, who joins the team in the second week of the competitions, once his contest is over. They also ‘play’ for Eurosport Javier Fernandez Y Regino Hernandez, medalists in Pyeongchang 2018.
Anthony Ruiz, director general of Discovery, highlights that Eurosport will be “the only place to follow the Games”, which can also be seen “how, when and where they want” the viewers. He also explained that when they got the rights they committed to the International Olympic Committee to “give greater coverage than ever before and reach more people”.
On traditional television Eurosport 1 It will host classic disciplines such as alpine and cross-country skiing, figure skating and ice hockey. Eurosport 2 It will have a more youthful profile, with modalities debuting in Beijing and sports such as snowboarding, skeleton, luge and bobsleigh, among others. Also, there will be a third channel dedicated exclusively to ice hockey and another in ultra high definition, with 4K images.
From the outset, the friday 28 premieres ‘Heading to Beijing’, a documentary in which the Spanish team present in Beijing will tell their impressions before the event, as well as a long list of curiosities about the competition. The starting point is the Fernández Ochoa brothers, with unpublished images.
Another relevant premiere is that of ‘Beijing Today’, a daily magazine presented by Miguel Angel Mendez, Àlex Corretja Y Marta Sanchez Bellas to summarize the news and offer interviews and the best videos of the Olympic Winter Games.
Opening and closing
The opening ceremony of the Games is held on february 4, while the closing one is broadcast on February 20, both at 1:00 p.m. However, ice hockey and curling competitions will begin on February 2, before the first gala.
Among the technological innovations, it also highlights The Cube, an innovative digital studio that includes a mixed reality system, which allows athletes to be interviewed remotely as if they were on set. It is something that Eurosport was already using in some competitions, but here it has been improved.
The sports channel will also broadcast the entire Olympic Games in paris 2024.
