If only

First of all, the impeccable clothing of the young man sitting on a bench whose precariousness is far from the care put into looking his best is striking. It is also strange that he is alone and that the bench he occupies is the only one that is willing to receive more students. The others are marooned in a dilapidated classroom that hasn’t been used for two years in Kampala, Uganda, due to the pandemic. On this first day of school, it is worth wondering if that loneliness will be momentary or if only he will give the present. Impossible to answer this question. What can be affirmed, because unfortunately there is almost no doubt, is that the poverty in their environment will persist and that the virus for now does not seem to give much respite. It is said that there is no evil that lasts a hundred years or a body that can endure. But due to the length of the misfortune, it already seems that the year ninety-nine is over. I hope the body holds.
