Sánchez’s album for the cult of his personality
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is a politician delighted to have met. This is reflected in the official photographs that La Moncloa distributes. The last one this Saturday, January 22: seductive look at the camera, phone in hand and the Prime Minister’s briefcase in the foreground out of focus, in case someone didn’t remember his title. The photo caption with which the Efe -public- agency has distributed the image is up to the task: «The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is closely following the situation in Ukraine in permanent contact with the representatives of the institutions of the EU and with European leaders’.
But perhaps the most iconic image is that of the Falcon with the current
External subjects minister, Jose Manuel Albares, who was responsible for international affairs in the Sánchez cabinet after achieving the Presidency of the Government in the motion of censure against Rajoy. Sánchez pretends not to pose while looking at his adviser without taking off his ‘pilot’ sunglasses, but inside the plane they are not very necessary, unless you are the pilot.
In June 2018, the La Moncloa Twitter account presented us with four close-ups of the hands of the new Prime Minister which, according to the attached text, marked “The Government’s Determination”. How?
Pedro Sánchez rushes off to the state palaces to enjoy his vacation, either in Las Marismillas, in Doñana (Huelva), or in La Mareta (Lanzarote). As ABC revealed, he has the habit of taking the friends with whom he played basketball at the Ramiro de Maeztu, and who now spend the summer at the State’s expense. In this image from last August he put on the suit to “supervise” the evacuation of Spanish troops from Afghanistan, but kept the espadrilles with which he walks through the palace that King Hussein of Jordan gave to Don Juan Carlos. After posting it on Twitter, Moncloa spread it, but cropped so that his feet cannot be seen.
Due to his love of aeronautics, it is not difficult for many of his official portraits to capture him flying, such as these snapshots in which he supervises the disasters caused by the Dana between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. The expression of concern comes out on its own.
