Madrid today hosted the presentation of the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds, a test that will be held in Sanxenxo next June and that will bring together a massive fleet that will once again make Galicia the international capital of sailing. The event was attended by the Vice President of the Xunta de Galicia -Alfonso Rueda-, the director of Tourism of Galicia -Nava Castro-, the mayor of Sanxenxo -Telmo Martín-, the General Director of Business Spain of Abanca -Luis Beraza-, the president of the Tourism Cluster of Galicia -Cesareo Pardal-, the president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation -Javier Sanz- and the president of the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo -Pedro Campos-.
The mayor of the town of Pontevedra was in charge of opening the act and he did so stating that “Without a doubt, it is a source of pride for Sanxenxo and for Galicia to be able to celebrate the World Cup, which will be even better than last year’s European Championship and with the Real Club Náutico as organizer, with which collaboration is maximum, success is always assured”.
Pedro Campos, for his part, began by thanking “The great support of Xacobeo, the Sanxenxo City Council and the Xunta de Galicia as co-organizers of the event, as well as the sponsors Abanca, Viajes Interrías, Quirón and Autesa Volvo. The Xacobeo 6mR Worlds will once again have as one of its main objectives the deseasonalization of Sanxenxo and the intention of the organization is to have an increase in participation of 30%, maintaining the quality that the European already had”.
Before ending his speech, Campos wanted to make a special mention to the sailor from Vigo and member of the crew of the “Bribon 500”, Alberto Viejo, who this past weekend suffered a serious accident training in the Vigo estuary: “Before finishing, I want to send from here all the strength and affection to our friend and colleague Alberto. Both he and his family know that he has our support and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”
The person in charge of closing the act was Alfonso Rueda, vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia: “For the Xunta it is a prestige to be part of this World Cup. This project, which began in 2020 at a very difficult time due to the pandemic, has already shown that it could hold an event with all the guarantees, such as the Spanish Championship first and then the European Championship in 2021, so there is no doubt that that the World Cup will once again be a complete success for Galicia”.
