Why do we fight with strangers on the internet?

A picture worth a thousand words, a multicultural reference with several layers of meaning, a sticker that condenses a complex sensation. It is a meme, that minimum unit of meaning that is central to any digital conversation today. Why do we adopt it? When did its use explode?
