Gastronomic getaways to feel like you are on vacation a few kilometers from Buenos Aires
Food is a journey through time and space, even more so when combined with environments that add an extra ingredient. For this reason, there are restaurants that refer to the beach, although they are hundreds of kilometers from the sea, and others that evoke a country lunch a few steps from the Panamericana. Here are some places to fool your mind for a while and feel like you’re on vacation.
Sofitel La Reserva Cardales
Pan-American Route Nº9, KM 61, Campana, Buenos Aires. @sofitelcardales Tel: 03489 43-5555.
This hotel has one of the most relaxing landscapes in Buenos Aires: many palm trees, vegetation, a lagoon, swimming pools and even an artificial beach. from your restaurant the chair you have access to these visuals that cry out for summer.
Of course, the best tables to experience this sensation are those found on the terrace, which has everything expected of such a space plus a bonus track that makes it suitable for these months of scorching sun; it is roofed, but thanks to its very open design it looks like a 100% open-air space and the summer mood remains intact.
The restaurant works from breakfast to closing, so the menu changes depending on the time of day.
Recommended: The red tuna with caper butter, potato mousseline and cauliflower is a great success.
For lunch, sandwiches and salads reign supreme. The Arabic bread, brie cheese, tomato and arugula pesto is highly recommended; the one with smoked salmon, confit tomatoes, herbs on walnut bread and raisins marks another hit. They are all to share, including the classic toasted ham and cheese, and they also come with a mix of greens or fries.
The salads come out of the classic and become a good option, take as an example the one with hearts of palm, mix of peppers, sprouts from the garden, coconut milk and shrimp.
Those who prefer to go for a larger portion of protein or seek to take bread out of the equation, can find grilled meats (salmon, loin, rib eye, chicken, etc.) with a side dish.
The caipi, an emblem of the holidays, is perfect: acidity and sweetness in 100% balanced levels.
Already at nightfall, there is a menu with a marked Mediterranean imprint, with a large presence of fish, regional charcuterie, cheeses, duck and a nod to Argentina, with the inevitable Milanese -although in this case it is lamb-. The red tuna with caper butter, potato and cauliflower mousseline is a great success. Carnivores will be pleased with the tasty grilled steak in a mustard crust with chives stuffed with a blend of cheeses and potatoes.
Those who have the opportunity to stay and enjoy its magnificent swimming pools (there are three: a huge one for adults, one for children and another semi covered with warm water) will be able to access the gastronomic proposal of the pool bar, which stands out for its good cocktails and excellent service.
Route 6 KM 184, Cardales, Buenos Aires. @lapebeta Only with reservation: 11-3324-5086.
The popular definition would say that La Pebeta It is a country restaurant, although it is only valid if it is confined to the literal, since it is in the countryside, but it offers much more than that. In this property of more than 100 hectares, 95% of what is brought to the table is produced, an authentic “farm to table” restaurant (from the farm to the table). That is to say, they have a vegetable garden, a farm with animals feeding on pasture and fruit trees.
Upon arrival, you already feel the country atmosphere because you have to travel about three kilometers along a road where you only notice fields, and when you get out of the car, even more so, the song of the birds welcomes you.
The tables are outdoors, under a large grove and close to one of the orchards, while on the horizon you can see the cows grazing.
Recommended: the heirloom tomatoes are a one way trip, the smoked eggplants with sous vide yolks as well. Pate is addictive.
In charge of the kitchen is the young and experienced chef Nicolás Tykocki. It makes small and large portions, and generally presents a meat dish in each of the sections (that’s why nothing is further from the meat paradise of the classic country restaurant).
In La Pebeta They work with their own animals and respect seasonality. “Now there is lamb and pork. We don’t wean, our lambs weigh around 20 kilos and in the market around 12. Piglets are slaughtered at 25 kilos and here we are between 60 and 90”, explains Tykocki.
Everything is tasty, proof that the magic is in the product and then it’s just a matter of good treatment.
Heirloom tomatoes are a one way trip, smoked eggplants with sous vide yolks as well. The pate is addictive, they make it with suckling pig and it has liver, kidney and intercostal meat, it ends with gremolata, which gives it a citrus and refreshing touch.
The wine list is very complete -a registered trademark of Esteban Nofal, one of the partners of the place along with Mariano Scampari, with whom he also shares a partnership at Trattoria Olivetti-.
There are hammocks for the children; grocery store to bring edible souvenirs home and on Fridays at noon they do guided tours of the orchards. A place to spend a gastronomic holiday in nature.
Juan Diaz de Solis 2794, Martinez. @tribu_ba
In the absence of “the waves and the wind”, the river and the wind. That is the proposal of Tribe, which for a while leads to the beach without having to travel several kilometers. This restaurant, which opened less than a month ago, operates on the coast of San Isidro.
From its spacious deck -which has tables and living rooms- you can not only see the water but also everything that happens around it: people lying down under the sunlight, soccer balls, a volleyball game, runners.
Recommended: empty with Spanish potatoes and smoked bondiola with roasted sweet potatoes. The pasta, another of the strong bets.
It is open from breakfast to dinner and has proposals that are adapted to each moment. To start the day there are many healthy options, since most of its clients are athletes who train in the area; the rest of the day they offer lighter options, such as sandwiches, salads and tapas (breaded prawns, cheese board and cold cuts, white fish sticks, among others).
One of the stars of the house is the clay oven, from where two braised meats come out, super tasty and forceful: the vacuum with Spanish potatoes and the smoked bondiola with roasted sweet potatoes. The pasta -with three varieties of ravioli- are another of the strong bets.
Inside of Tribe it also manages to convey a summer atmosphere: white curtains, lamps and chairs that refer to Bali. The remodeling of the space demanded almost four months and that effort is perceived in every detail.
The bar occupies a prominent place in the room and they have a selection of classics and other signature cocktails.
In Tribe a fundamental sensation of the holidays is experienced: the good vibes and the relaxed atmosphere. Perhaps it is because this place is the “son” of three friends, two of them from the gastronomic universe and another from the tourism industry. “People’s response is super positive; luckily, it fills up at all hours; likewise, as always when a new restaurant opens, we are making some adjustments to the menu. These days we are going to be with changes in the grid offer”, they assure.
Ruta 8, Km 60.5 @hiltonpilar
Green, green and more green. hilton pillar It is located inside Pilar Golf Club, so before entering, you have to lower the revolutions, contemplate the landscape and tune in to the relax frequency. Visitors have two options: go to the tables that the lobby bar has near the pool or go to the country club house to enjoy the gastronomic offer on its terrace, which overlooks the golf course.
In the club house – called “The Old English Pub” – the premise is to eat on the go, that’s why the menu focuses on salads, sandwiches and pizzas. Although there are also some main ones, such as the pasta or the meat of the day, the milanese and the chicken.
Recommended: the pizzas are the hit, they are made with organic flour and slow fermentation. There is a vegan option with almond cheese.
The terrace is huge and has unique views of the golf course. A few meters away there is a square with games for children to entertain themselves.
Of course, the hotels themselves refer to vacations. That is why the lobby bar is another of the gastronomic alternatives with a summer air. Being a completely glazed space, the interior coexists with the exterior. However, for an extra holiday dose, it is recommended to choose one of the tables located in the area near the pools.
The menu offers good snack options (hummus, selection of cheeses and cold cuts, empanadas) and sandwiches. The pizzas are consecrated as the hit, they are made with organic flour and slow fermentation. They come out in individual size and offer a vegan option with almond cheese. Aware that this gastronomic outing is a good family plan, they also offer a kids menu.
Finally, nothing more beautiful than contemplating a landscape with a cocktail in hand. From the imposing bar located in the center of the lobby come classics and author versions. In addition, they have several gin labels to put together a custom “gin and tonic”.
And an important clarification, the prices are friendly for a five-star hotel.
Sipan, Wyndham Nordelta
Sipan Nordelta Av. del Puerto 240, Rincon de Milberg
The restaurant Sipan, located in Wyndham Nordelta, has tables that overlook the bay and also the hotel pool. From there you can appreciate the water, the sailboats and the boats in the company of a good cocktail or a delicious meal. The menu has the Nikkei imprint that is expected of Sipan, but also adaptations for a pool environment, with some sandwiches and a kids menu. The cocktail bar is excellent, they offer one of the richest pisco sours in Buenos Aires.
J. Darregueira 2010, Pilar. @sharewoodpilar.
For young people who spend their summer in the city, the shelter is Sharewood. This place, located at kilometer 48 of the Pan-American Highway, has an artificial lagoon to practice water sports or simply contemplate it with a beer in hand. The gastronomic proposal is very beachy, lots of fast food, simple drinks and beer.
