Universities where students affected by Covid will be able to take an additional exam
The University of La Rioja has approved an additional exam session for students who have been affected by the coronavirus. In addition, it has also been decided postpone the delivery of minutes of the first call for the defense of Final Degree Projects to also attend to students affected by the disease.
The decision was made after holding a Governing Council meeting where it was agreed to adopt a series of measures that “they intend to favor the normal functioning of the exam system in the first semester, stop the spread of the virus and guarantee that people affected by covid can have two calls per year per subject and course.”
For this reason, and as explained by the Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Teaching Staff at the University of La Rioja, Eva Sanz Arazuri, a additional call for said students in the ordinary or extraordinary call of the first semester.
As the vice-rector has recognized, “the numbers of infections in recent weeks have led us, in the exercise of academic responsibility and social, to apply additional measures to hold the tests of the final evaluation of this first semester. All this to guarantee the quality of the evaluation tests, protect the health of the entire university community and convey peace of mind to the entire student body and empathize with those who are affected by covid in these tests.
As announced, the additional tests will be held between March 10 and 23. In addition, the faculties and schools must present the dates of the exams before March 4 so that the student body knows in advance the dates of that additional call.
Students affected by the disease must accredit it by completing the form that will be enabled for this purpose from Monday, January 17 on the UR website. Applicants must attach, by the same means, documentary justification of the isolation or quarantine situation.
In proposing these measures, the Governing Council has declared essential the final evaluation tests in the ordinary and extraordinary official periods of the 2021-22 academic year. These tests will face-to-face character, unless the health situation requires contemplating the exceptions provided for in the General Contingency Plan for the adaptation of teaching activity and the final evaluation tests for the 2021-22 academic year.
The exam schedule for the first semester includes an ordinary call from January 24 to February 5, and an extraordinary one, from February 10 to 19. Therefore, the calendar of final evaluations approved by the Governing Council on May 10, 2021 is maintained without any change. In addition, the delivery of minutes of the first call for defending of the End of Degree Projects It is postponed until April 29.
The students of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) who cannot attend the regular or extraordinary examination sessions due to Covid-19 —because they are positive or have to be quarantined— may also opt for a third examination session, the date of which will be set by the teacher of each subject. This is a measure agreed this week for the exam period that begins next January 17. The UIB Board of Directors met this Wednesday to analyze the situation and decide on mechanisms to make it easier for students to be evaluated.
