Health requires the withdrawal of an antigen test that gives hundreds of false positives




The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has required the cessation of the commercialization of antigen tests Genrui Sars-Cov2 due to a possible increase in false positive results. The measure comes after, this week, the Irish Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) did the same after the complaints from 550 people that they had used the test giving positive when, in fact, they were not infected.

The AMPS has indicated that the cessation of the commercialization of the test of the Chinese company Genrui in Spain is a “Precautionary” measure while conducting an investigation. It has also asked the companies in charge of distributing the test to withdraw the test voluntarily.

The department of education in Hamburg (Germany), for its part, already announced last December that it was going to stop using the antigen tests of this brand for offering contradictory results. “Genrui brand rapid tests often report a coronavirus infection that is not confirmed when verified with a PCR test,” they noted then.

Until now, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products had authorized the sale of 21 antigen tests made by different companies. With the cessation of the marketing of Genrui, the number is reduced, at least temporarily.
