The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will fall by 41.39% this Sunday, thus cutting the upward spiral in recent days, remaining below the level of 200 euros per megawatt hour (MWh).

Peak and valley hours

  • The cheapest: from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at € 0.03635 / kWh
  • The most expensive: from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. € 0.30697 / kWh

Specifically, the ‘pool’ will register for this Sunday an average price of 119.24 euros / MWh, about 94 euros less than 203.45 euros / MWh on Saturday, according to data published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE) collected by Ep.

By time slots, the maximum price of electricity for this Sunday will be between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with 240 euros / MWh, while the minimum, of 14 euros / MWh, will be registered between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The prices of the ‘pool’ have a direct effect on the regulated tariff –the so-called PVPC-, to which almost 11 million consumers are welcomed

in the country, and serves as a reference for the other 17 million that have contracted their supply in the free market.

The reasons for the rise

The increase in price in recent months in the electricity market is mainly explained by the high prices of electricity gas in the markets and carbon dioxide emission rights (CO2), at all-time highs this year.
