10 curiosities you didn’t know about Ozark, the Netflix series

On January 21, the new (and last!) Season of “Ozark” opens, one of the best Netflix original series that will say goodbye forever during this 2022.

Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Julia Garner, this family drama ranks as one of the most anticipated comebacks of the year. To celebrate his return, we tell you some curiosities of the fiction that every fan should know.

We all have those brands that we love and are super loyal to. But what happens when, in addition, you make your fictional characters also use them? That is the case with Jason Bateman who is a declared lover of New Balance, he wears his sneakers all the time and his character in Ozark repeats that same behavior.

After deciding to move, one of the first businesses the Byrde family decides to invest in is “The Blue Cat” restaurant. The funny thing is that it really exists, its real name is “The Little River Sports Bar and Grill” and it is in Lake Allatoona. The production did have to build the set for the picnic area, the pools and the booths, which are 100% fictional.

When the production offered Laura Linney to be part of the series, she declined the offer. She was not interested in the character and the project did not quite attract her attention. However, upon learning that Jason Bateman was part of the cast, he changed his mind and did so on one condition: that Wendy Byrde is not only the protagonist’s wife, but has her own development. Something we will always be grateful for right?

While in “Ozark” this task seems very simple, in the real world it is completely different. In the search to make it as plausible as possible, the entire team of the series participated in a chat with an FBI agent who explained how it is done and shared his experience with this type of crime.

If you are a fan of the series, you will remember the scene of Ruth Langmore with a mouse. Apparently the actress has an overwhelming fear of these rodents and that is why, when the production asked her to pick it up and drop it in the water, she could not do it. In the end it took a hand double to achieve that moment.

Although he has no regrets about his decision now, Jason Bateman initially turned down the starring role in the series because he did not consider it a challenge to his career. However, he was going to be the director of the entire first season, a situation that changed because – due to complications in his schedule – he did not have enough time to prepare.

Apparently Jason Bateman loves working with actors he admires. After seeing Peter Mullan’s work on “Top of the Lake,” he knew he wanted it for his next project. This is how he approached the Scottish actor and convinced him to be part of “Ozark” without even showing him the scripts of the fiction.

Someone from the production is a true fan of Canadian Football League because all – absolutely all – the games that the fictional characters watch are part of that league.

No, not the money laundering part. But the creator, Bill Dubuque, was inspired by his summer job experience at Lake of the Ozarks. A native of Missouri, during his youth he worked for the Alhonna Resort and Marina.

It seems that Jason Bateman’s characters are not doing very well financially, right? Also starring in the iconic comedy, there are some nods for fans of both fictions. For example, both characters hide physical money (one on the banana stand and one on the walls of their house) and in “Ozark” Marty shares his knowledge of maritime law when his former character, Michael Bluth, was also obsessed with maritime law.
